CRANE MEDICINE :: WHEN EARTH BEARS METAL

course begins july 8th, 2019

In this course, we lay the groundwork for turning inward during one of the "3 Golden Opportunities" of female life cycles; perimenopause, in order to attune to our body’s needs and to nourish the spirit. At our 5th cycle (5x7), starting at around age 35, our hormones start to naturally decline. We can learn to adapt to these changes with a blend of ancient and modern wisdoms so that we may age gracefully.

I created this course to guide you into one of the most misunderstood life cycles. Most of us resist and work against our rhythms because it's human nature to push beyond our limits. But when we reach these limits, our bodies provides clear signs to recoil and recover. In modern times, we haven't learned to heed the heal cycle, we just push through until our gas tanks are running on fumes. When we lean on cycles, and learn it's rhythms, we stop borrowing from our own futures and cultivate more calm, ease and vitality. This is the art of longevity.

Crane Medicine is one of the 5 Animal Frolics of Qigong based on the 5 Phases (wood, fire, earth, metal & water). Cranes are associated with Metal energy. Females transition from our Earth based years (reproductive years) into our Metal years at the turn of our 5th cycle of life; at around age 35. For many of us, this marks the beginning of our "perimenopausal" years.

"At age 35, the Bright Yang channels begin to weaken, the complexion starts to wither and the hair begins to fall."

- Foundations of Chinese Medicine

This quote is not meant to instill worry, it's merely an observation of 1000's of years of human experience. Aging is an art form. We all experience it but we do tend to progress through it differently, don't we? My hope is to equip you with the wisdom of leaning on cycles and to embrace the coming years by harnessing the magic of each phase.

Who is this course for?

Everyone is welcome and everyone can benefit from this wisdom.

Imagine a time when communities held ceremonies and shared stories. Where our elders led the way into these rites of passages with spiritual guidance and practical wisdom.

Even in western medicine, they recognize that around age 35, there is a natural decline in ovarian function. But, the narrative in the West is that we must endure the possible discomforts because it's all part of owning a female body, much like the normalization of period pain and PMS. We're not taught that these sometimes subtle and not so subtle signs are our body's innate way of drawing our attention that something is out of harmony. Our bodies are programmed for survival. The discomforts are messages to sustain your life. If we dull the discomforts without heeding the message, did you know that your body is still in discomfort, we've just numbed it.

 what will we learn together?

In this course, we'll take a brief journey into understanding female life cycles and transitions. From this foundation, we'll slowly build upon our uniquely female experience with our dynamic hormonal dance. I'll be drawing from both western and eastern perspectives to understand our bodies more conceptually. And, within the lens of Chinese Medicine I'll weave in concepts from the realms of Yin & Yang Theory and The 5 Phases.

We'll uncover what some early signs might look like, a global approach to ease into this transition and practical strategies to sync into the rhythm rather than working against it.

I will occasionally ask you to dive into self inquiry where you'll examine your life, it's parts, the part you play and possibly making some subtle and sustainable changes.

The length of the course will help us to create space and time to slowly integrate the practices presented and to ask questions in our safe and sacred community for guidance along your journey.
