Conscious Perimenopause: Three Things to Support You

Consciousness is starting to influence our experiences of conception, parenting, postpartum and even our relationships with food. Why not extend that stream of awareness and embodiment towards one of the most misunderstood life transitions; perimenopause? Here are three ways to help support yourself consciously through your journey.

Context

Perimenopause and menopause are part of a continuum of our natural development. In Western cultures, these life transitions are laced with fear because as a culture we don’t respect the aging person, especially the aging female. We’ll do anything to resist the aging process because it’s just not accepted. As an acupuncturist, I teach that this life cycle is a rebirth into the second part of our lives and it’s called our Second Spring. What framework would you like to embrace when transitioning through your journey?

Body Literacy

Do you understand what this life cycle is all about? Do you know what changes are coming? Do you know how to prepare for the change? Did you even know that you can prepare for the change? Do you track your menstrual cycle? Body literacy was a term created by veteran menstrual advocates Laura Wershler, Geraldine Matus and Megan Lalonde in 2005. They define it as learning to read and understand the language of your body and learning to observe, chart, and interpret an ovulatory menstrual cycle. Why is this important? If we speak and learn this language then we can better understand how to approach our health naturally and holistically.

Community

We are social beings. As much as we need occasional solitude, we also need connection and community. A place where we feel deeply understood and accepted. We’re also missing the Elders in our communities. We are missing our sages & crones. The ones that help guide and support us through story telling, myth and parables. Are you walking the path of Crone? How will you serve your communities and embody your wisdom? How and when will you start to share your story? And what stories will you share?

If you’ve been seeking to consciously approach this life cycle with the guidance of a holistic coach, I invite you to join our E-Course Alchemy of Perimenopause. Hope to see you there. Deep Bows & Blessings.
